You will be able to teach and supervise exercise to music classes for healthy adults and young people within the 14-16 age range.
Once complete you will be a fully qualified Exercise to Music Instructor and a recognised level 2 Fitness Professional. This demonstrates the high standard of your qualification to clients.
You will be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Instructing Exercise to Music, which is embossed with the Ofqual and NCFE awarding body logos. From here you are ready to run your own classes or gain employment within a gym.

This exercise to music level 2 distance learning course is delivered by online learning via our student portal.
You study your course materials and then complete a workbook for each theory module. This contains short answer questions and case studies. When complete this is submitted to your tutor for assessment.
After you have finished the theory part you move onto the course practical.
This gives you the opportunity to put your course theory into practice instructing a mini exercise to music class.
You follow our step by step guidelines for this and record evidence of yourself teaching your own level 2 exercise to music class with a group of four participants.
As this course is fully REPs and CIMSPA recognised you will also need to attend twenty hours of classes in your local area run by a qualified exercise to music instructor. This develops your experience and skills ready for running your own classes. This is an industry requirement and you can arrange this at times that work best for you.
This course comes with full tutor support. Sometimes it’s helpful to ask a question, check you’re on the right lines or just have a quick chat. Rest assured your friendly Academy of Fitness Professionals course tutor is there to lend a hand. There are no exams involved in gaining this certification.
Once everything is complete you will receive your exercise to music certificate in the post, so you’ll always have a hard copy to hand. This is embossed with the Ofqual and NFCE accreditations.
You will also be awarded a credit and unit summary certification detailing all the modules you have achieved.

If you are planning to become an Exercise to Music Instructor this nationally and industry recognised course provides everything you need to practice.
If you are just starting out you can complete the full course or if you have already completed your Fitness Instructor or Personal Trainer course you can gain your certification by completing Modules 5 and 6 together with the course practical video.
As you progress the course materials will help you develop your knowledge and confidence which you’ll be able to demonstrate in the portfolio assessment video.
On completion of this course you will receive the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Instructing Exercise to Music, an Ofqual regulated qualification.
You’ll compile your own portfolio of evidence to gain this Exercise to Music qualification. In addition you will complete a course practical video where you will showcase your very own exercise to music class.
You can both study and complete your portfolio at a pace that’s right for you.
The practical part of your ETM qualification gives you the opportunity to put your course theory into action. You will teach your own ETM class with at least four participants. At every stage you will follow our carefully laid out criteria recording either a series of mini video clips or the full class to showcase your skills.
Popular venues students use include halls and club huts, gym fitness studios, schools and space permitting your own home.
No previous fitness or exercise qualifications are required. However, due to the nature of the exercise to music classes that you will ultimately be qualified to instruct it is advisable to be of sufficient fitness so that you are able to carry out the role.
The level 2 exercise to music course is structured into two parts – theory and practical.
Both parts are completed by distance learning with the full support of your course tutor who is available as a direct point of contact throughout your studies.
Each theory module is assessed by a workbook submission which your tutor reviews. The practical video involves taking clips to evidence your skills which is also submitted to your tutor.
You don’t need any specific qualifications to complete this course. However, it is beneficial to have some experience of participating in exercise to music related classes.
For the level 2 etm fast-track qualification route you need to already have a industry recognised level 2 fitness qualification or equivalent.
The minimum age for this course is 16.
Many of our students complete this course from 6 weeks, however there is no set time limit enabling you to study at your own pace with the peace of mind that you have a maximum of one year to become qualified.
Yes – this etm qualification is designed to offer you the maximum choice, support and freedom in terms of where, when and how you study. Once you have booked your course you will have access to our student portal. You simply complete your enrolment and watch the induction video. That’s it, you’re then ready to start your studies.
Once qualified you will be recognised as having obtained the Level 2 Exercise to Music Certification and this does not have an expiry date.
This is also a great way of gaining additional continuing professional development (CPD), building your fitness knowledge.
If you start work in an exercise to music instructor job check with your employer if you need your own insurance cover, or if you are covered on their company policy.
If you take the freelance route then you will need to arrange your own insurance cover for the classes you run.
Group exercise instructors teach fun and engaging classes to help participants get active and improve their fitness levels in a social setting. Most gyms offer a wide range of daily classes tailored to different ability levels and areas of interest. You’d run classes for agreed days and times as part of the gyms group exercise schedule. Or, you could set up your own classes from a village hall, school facility or similar venue.
You’ll be responsible for running safe, enjoyable and effective exercise to music classes that participants want to attend on a regular basis. As your classes fill up there’s also the opportunity to expand and appeal to different customer groups. If this is the career for you, here’s some of the responsibilities that go with the role.
Ensure you have robust processes and procedures in place for new members joining your exercise to music classes.
Focus on the environment and class safety, choreography, coaching exercise technique and heaps of motivation, fun and encouragement.
Decide on set communication channels and use them to keep everyone up to date. Seek regular feedback from participants to help plan and adapt class formats.
